Music, Movement, Machines
New things for an old year

Last year around this time I returned to Montréal at the end of a two-year postdoc appointment at the Université Paris-Saclay in France. While it was sad to say au revoir to Paris, I’ve been excited to usher in a new chapter of my career. Inspired by the recent work I’ve done composing and performing new music for the dance production For Patricia, I’ve made the decision to take a pause from academic research and focus on creative output. My main focus right now is to create new music to put out in the next year.
To support this work, to build an audience, and to connect with individuals across and between the domains of music, design, research, technology, and the arts, I’ve kicked off the “Music, Movement, Machines” newsletter and podcast.

- “Music, Movement, Machines” can be found on major podcast platforms/apps
- Podcast homepage: johnnyvenom.com/podcast
- Patreon:
- Audio podcast (ad-free, available to all)
- Video podcast (ad-free, Patreon members only, free or paid levels available)
The newsletter is published on Substack and is an outlet for news and updates (beyond and hopefully more frequently than what I post here), and a platform for longer-form writing I’ve been wanting to do in a more non-academic format that I’ve been used to in the last several years.
On the podcast, I interview colleagues and friends coming from a wide spectrum of artistic and research disciplines to talk about their work, ideas, and trends and topics around music, arts, and technology.
I hope you enjoy and find something that resonates in it. Please feel free to subscribe, like, or leave a comment on whatever platform you are coming from. 🙏
